Dr Benjamin Robertson

Consultant Craniofacial & Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

BDSc(HONS), MBBS, PGDiP OMS, FRACDS (OMS), FRCS (OMFS)

Ben is a dually qualified Specialist Oral and Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeon. He has a special interest and expertise in managing Complex Facial Deformity & Orthognathic Surgery, Facial Reconstruction and Paediatric Maxillofacial & Craniofacial Surgery.

Born and raised in Brisbane, he completed his undergraduate dental degree at the University of Queensland with First Class Honours in 2002. After practising general dentistry on the Gold Coast for two years, he was selected into the prestigious Melbourne Oral & Maxillofacial Training Programme in 2005, whereby he completed his Postgraduate Diploma in OMS. Graduating medical school from the University of Melbourne he returned to Brisbane and completed his medical internship and General Surgery training in Rockhampton and Hervey Bay.  Another return to Melbourne ensued in 2011, where he commenced his advanced OMS training. His final year of training was undertaken at the Princess Alexandra and Mater Hospitals in Brisbane in 2013. This resulted in attainment of his Specialist Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

This allowed completion of the highly sought after Royal Melbourne Hospital Dentofacial Deformity and Orthognathic Surgery Fellowship in 2014. At the end of 2014, Ben relocated to Liverpool in the United Kingdom to undertake his Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship, at the world renowned Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Supra-Regional Craniofacial Unit – one of the busiest tertiary referral craniofacial units in the world. Due to his success during this fellowship, he was appointed as a Consultant in January 2016 and was dually responsible for running of this unit until January 2020 when he returned to Brisbane.

Whilst in England, Ben was successful in attaining his full Specialist Fellowship in OMFS with Royal College of Surgeons of England. During his time in Liverpool, he was also awarded specialist registration with the General Medical Council – one of the very few overseas trained maxillofacial surgeons to achieve this. The Liverpool Maxillofacial Surgery Unit, based at Aintree University Hospital, is the largest OMFS department in the UK. He performed complex facial trauma reconstruction.  Other facets of his adult practice included a large facial skin oncology and orthognathic surgery practice and his adult craniofacial surgery practice at Walton Neurosurgery Hospital.  He has also undertaken further training in a number of aesthetic procedures and complex nasal reconstruction and septo-rhinoplasty training during his time in Liverpool.

Ben, alongside Dr Michael Burgess, created Queen Street Specialists in 2020. They are both the primary treating consultants at Queensland Children’s Hospital.
